1EK AIGIOU

We are a public vocational school in Aigion, Achaia Greece. Our school consists of 8 different laboratories in which approx. 200 students practice on the theoretical knowledge that they have obtained. We are 25 teachers of various fields such as Nursing, Informatics, Electronics, nursery workers, Engineers and Electricians. We are very much interested in taking part in programmes which involve students’ feelings and complicated situations and how fairytales can make students to show empathy. Especially this last aspect is extremely important for us for the following reasons:
1) students between 15-18 years old show strong feelings about relationships, feelings not always positive for the others , but also negative feelings such as competitiveness, anger, underestimation etc.
2) conflicts occur rather regularly, especially between students with different characters
3) bullying is a phenomenon which grows day by day and creates difficult and dangerous reactions and
4) dealing with bullying is fundamental for the students health and alternative methods like fairytales can contribute in reinforcing students’ empathy.
In whatever activity we carry out, we follow our 4 core principles:
1) Dedication – meaning that we give our 100% and more
2) Openness – we work with – and for the public
3) Positivity – we see opportunities rather than problems and
4) Enthusiasm – we want to change our surroundings for the better.
We have a school project team. Mrs. Antonia Kostopoulou and Mrs. Paraskevi Vasileiou will be in charge of running the project. They both are nurses who work in the educational system for more than 20 years, both holding MSc in Health Units Administration and in Adult Learning. If they leave, one of the teachers from the school project team will take over their role.

Péter András Gimnázium és Kollégium

Our school is in Békés county, in the eastern part of Hungary, a disadvantaged region in terms of low infrastructure, high unemployment rates, low wages, many people leave the area for better opportunities. It is a regional educational, cultural and health centre. We aim to create a 21st-century competitive education program with well-trained teachers. We develop our professional expertise by the implementation of the language teaching related objectives in our Educational Program. It is essential for us to effectively prepare the students for the medium and advanced level Matura and for language exams, thus facilitating their admission to higher education. We also promote less widely used languages in our school by teaching German, Italian and Russian as well.We have presently 350 students and 28 teachers. Many students come from a poor family background, impoverished environment, lack of proper parental care, and a high number of divorce and separation.
Our school motivates and prepares students to break out from the disadvantaged situation through education and its talent development program, which consists of a tutor-mentor programme, extra classes and participation opportunities in international projects. The six-year high school education has been available in our school since 1996. Then, almost all the students study at university and college. They have a large number of language classes and they also study IT for many years. This gives them greater chances to pass the language exams and to acquire advanced language proficiency. In the four-year secondary grammar school there are several options for those who come to us: they can study English, German, Italian and Russian and science subjects in an increased number of lessons. Our long term strategy is to provide multicultural environment for the improvement of foreign language learning and teaching, enhanced by international relations. The main motivation for this project is to provide our students oportunities to widen their views.

ISTITUTO DI ISTRUZIONE SUPERIORE “GIORDANO BRUNO”

ur school is a public institution, situated in Budrio, a small village near Bologna, one of the most famous city in the North-West of Italy. There are 181 teachers with 1200 students, between 14-19. The school has its headquarters in Budrio but there are three other departments in other small towns, Medicina and Molinella. Our High School has several different studies, with vocational departments (Finance, Marketing, Mechanics, Electronics, I.C.T) and also a scientific and humanistic branch as well. Our aim is to educate students having 21st century skills thanks to our professional training staff and innovative teaching techniques. In addition to school curriculum, lots of activities are done to help our students to develop their social skills. According to Italian School Program students also attend a minimum of 150 hours outside school in work-training. We develop European project as eTwinning and Erasmus Plus. We promote cultural competitions in Maths and we prepare students for foreign languages certifications. The main aim of our education is to teach students to fight intolerance and racism by culture and to increase in their mind the love for arts, culture, science in generals.
As we are a school with a lot of immigrants’ pupils we still have to face some episode of racism, although our results are getting better year after year. We often come upon with these acts of intolerance and we organise small projects to prevent them. In addiction, a project based on reading, especially fairy tales, that is to say, something simple but maybe forgotten for our kind of students is useful to increase their love for reading which is still too weak
