Fairy tales are the primary cultural heritage that is passed down from generation to generation all over the world. We grew up with fairy tales. Fairy tales strengthen feelings such as love, success, trust, tolerance and equality in people. Thus, empathy building skills develop.

When we look at today’s children and young people as teachers, we realized that they do not have any environment to develop their empathy skills. They spend most of their free time alone in social media or computer games. Unfortunately, many of these games contain violence and hate.

Moreover, it is not possible to filter or control these games. These lonely young people behave such a way that they upset their peers, especially in social environments. This led us to do this project.

After forming the idea, we determined our partners who are interested in the subject. At the end of our meetings, we agreed that empathy is of great importance for solving some problems among young people and breaking down prejudices.

We have identified the emotions we aim to empower to build empathy. In order to strengthen these emotions, we decided to put our participants into the fairy tale world in order to move them away from technology. The main goal of our project is strengthening some of the emotions and helping to solve some problems existing in the society.

We will strengthen emotions with fairy tales using a method similar to bibliotherapy, which has been used in psychological studies in all societies for many years and, in its simplest form, to use the books with a guide (Katz & Watt, 1992) to achieve therapeutic results.

We are going to deal with;

• hate speech
• bullying
• ableism
• distrust
• racial prejudice.

We replace these negative attitudes with

• tolerance
• success
• confidence
• equality
• love

We will empower our students’ empathic feelings by working on tales including the elements related to nature, sports, animals, art and migration.

During this project, our students will develop empathy and build a bridge with their families and family elders through fairy tales. They will also have the opportunity to spend more time together.

Thus, it will be ensured that the elderly share their experiences that will increase life quality of young people and inter-generational cooperation will be strengthened. Thanks to the effect of our project that will spread wave by wave, the magic of fairy tales will embrace everyone.
